Water Heater Program

Who Qualifies?

Any MEC member who installs a new electric water heater

  Replacing an existing electric water heater.
  Installing a new water heater in a new home.
  Replacing a gas water heater with an electric one.
  If the new water heater is a minimum of 40 gallon.

Incentive Amount

You will receive:

$25 credit on your bill when you replace an existing electric water heater with a standard WH. 40 gal min.

$100 credit on your bill when you replace an existing water heater with a lifetime electric WH. 40 gal min.

$100 credit when you convert from gas heating to electric water heater. 30 gal min.

$100 credit when you install a standard or lifetime electric water heater in a new home you are building. ( 40 gal min.)

$100 credit when you install a lifetime electric water heater in a new home under construction, 40 gal min.

Water Heater Energy Efficiency indicator- The Energy Factor
The energy factor (EF) indicates a water heater's overall energy efficiency based on the amount of hot water produced per unit of fuel consumed over a typical day.  This includes the following:

• Recovery efficiency – how efficiently the heat from the energy source is transferred to the water.
• Standby losses – the percentage of heat loss per hour from the stored water compared to the heat content of the water (water heaters with storage tanks).
• Cycling losses – the loss of heat as the water circulates through a water heater tank, and/or inlet and outlet pipes.

The higher the energy factor, the more efficient the water heater.
MEC’s New Water Heater Incentives.

Since we want to encourage energy efficiency, we are changing our incentives to reward high efficiency electric water heater purchases. Beginning Oct 1st and for a limited time on the purchase of a new water heater, we offer the following:

Purchase	Incentive
Less than .92 energy factor, minimum 30 gallon	receive a $25 credit on your bill.
.92 energy factor, minimum 40 gallon	receive a $50 credit on your electric bill.
.95 energy factor, minimum 40 gallon	receive a $75 credit on your electric bill.
Installing a .95 energy factor, minimum 40 gallon electric water heater in a new home.	receive a $100 credit on your electric bill.
Converting from gas to electric, .92 energy factor, minimum 40 gallon electric water heater.	receive a $100 credit on your electric bill.

*Incentive must be requested no later than 90 days from invoice date,  WH installation must be complete, and copy of purchase invoice must be included.
